5-km coastal route with Talamanca Beach and viewpoint

Ibiza's cruise port is located at Pier Botafoch, slightly outside the old town, offering a great starting point for an active shore excursion right by the sea. This 5 km route connects Talamanca Beach with beautiful coastal sections and a small viewpoint above the coast. The loop is ideal for a relaxed run or walk with sea views.

**Important note on start location:**

This route is particularly suitable for larger cruise ships docking at Pier Botafoch. Smaller ships sometimes dock directly below the old town of Dalt Vila. In this case, a route through the old town of Ibiza is more suitable.

Route description

Start directly at the cruise port

The route starts directly at Pier Botafoch. After leaving the harbor area, the route first leads towards the marina, before continuing to Talamanca Beach.

Along Talamanca Beach

The route primarily follows the wooden boardwalk of the beach promenade for almost the entire length of the beach. This section is very relaxed for running or walking and offers beautiful views of the sea, coast, and bay. At the end of the beach section, you turn around and return the same way.

To the viewpoint above the coast

After the beach, the route leads through a small alley back towards the harbor. Shortly before the cruise port, turn left onto a smaller uphill street. At the top, the viewpoint at the Ruinas baterías antiaéreas Isla Grossa awaits, offering a beautiful view of the coast, harbor, and the old town of Ibiza. Afterward, you head downhill back to the cruise port.

Conclusion

While the old town of Dalt Vila is more exciting for classic sightseeing, this route scores with its good running surface, a great view, and a quick start directly from the ship. Especially Talamanca Beach and the viewpoint make the loop varied despite its short distance.

If you have a little more time, you can ideally combine the loop with a detour to the old town or an excursion on Ibiza.

Perfect day

Ibiza can be ideally combined with a sporty activity and a classic island excursion. This 5 km route is perfect as an active start to the day or as a relaxed run after an excursion.

This loop can be particularly well combined with a guided highlight tour for cruise guests. This way, you can discover the island's most important sights, while the run or walk directly at the harbor provides the sporty component.

If you prefer to be active with a guide, you can also find guided 5 km or 8 km jogging tours on Ibiza. These are a good alternative for anyone who prefers to run with local accompaniment and receive additional insider tips about the island. Otherwise, you can find more sport excursions like guided walks or bike tours via the links.

Frequently asked questions

Does the route start directly from the cruise port or do I need a transfer?

The route starts directly at the cruise terminal at Pier Botafoch. A transfer is not necessary. Smaller ships sometimes dock below the old town – a route through the old town is more suitable there.

How does navigation work with the map and GPX file? Do I need internet?

You can either follow the route directly via the map on this page or import the GPX file into a navigation app like Komoot. We recommend navigating via the GPX file, as it is significantly more precise and gives you clear guidance via GPS while running. After saving the GPX file in your app, you can usually also use the map offline. We recommend testing the navigation in airplane mode without active Wi-Fi beforehand to ensure it works without an internet connection.

Tip: For safety, it’s still useful to have internet access on the go. If your mobile provider on Ibiza offers no data roaming or only expensive roaming, a global data plan that works in many countries is suitable for cruises – for example, from eSIM.sm (advertisement).

Is the route safe?

The route partly runs along smaller streets without classic sidewalks. However, these are only lightly trafficked. Overall, the route can therefore be considered safe.

What should I do if I can't continue or if time is running out?

Especially for runs in the afternoon, allow enough time buffer. If time is running out, you should check whether you skip the viewpoint or return directly from the beach. For emergencies, it's also advisable to save the ship's phone number, which is usually provided in the daily program, beforehand. You should also have apps like Uber or Bolt on your phone and be familiar with their use. These also work in Ibiza.

Are there public restrooms and drinking fountains along the route?

There is a public restroom at Talamanca Beach. Public water fountains are not known along the route. However, there are opportunities along the promenade to buy drinks if needed.

What is the terrain of the route and what equipment do you recommend?

The route mainly runs on paved paths, smaller roads, and wooden planks along the beach promenade. Normal running shoes are perfectly adequate. We also recommend bringing sun protection (ad), enough water, and a phone or a running watch for navigation. In addition, a payment method is useful, although you can usually pay with a card or smartphone in Ibiza.
