10-km route with skyline, Kaseya Center and Bayfront Park

The cruise port of Miami is located on Dodge Island and is one of the largest cruise ports in the world. Since the different terminals are spread across the entire port area, the actual distance may vary slightly depending on your ship's location. This 10-km route combines spectacular views of Downtown Miami with the Kaseya Center, the marina, and several waterfront parks.

Route description

Start near Dodge Island

The route starts roughly in the middle section of the cruise port. If your ship is docked further away, you can easily add extra distance along the terminal roads to reach the full 10 km. Right from the bridge towards Downtown Miami, you get impressive views of the skyline and Biscayne Bay.

Kaseya Center and Maurice A. Ferré Park

The Kaseya Center, home of the NBA team Miami Heat, is already clearly visible from the bridge. The route circles the arena before continuing along the waterfront towards Maurice A. Ferré Park.

Continue to Bayfront Park

After a short loop through the park, the route passes the Kaseya Center again and continues south towards the marina. It then runs through Bayfront Park before heading north again, passing the Kaseya Center once more and returning over the bridge towards the cruise port.

Conclusion

This route is perfect for a sporty activity during a cruise stop in Miami. The constantly changing views of Downtown Miami make the run very enjoyable. The Kaseya Center is an additional highlight for sports fans, while the parks and marina add even more variety to the route.

Perfect day

The excursions presented here are not highly sporty, but they combine perfectly with a run or a longer walk. Since both tours either start close to the port or include transfers, there is very little extra planning required.

If you want to see as much of Miami as possible, a guided city tour is a great option. The tour starts near the port on the other side of the bridge close to the Kaseya Center and combines many of Miami's best-known highlights. Before or after the tour, there is still enough time for a relaxed run along Biscayne Bay with views of the Downtown Miami skyline.

Alternatively, you can visit the Everglades. The tour with transport from the cruise port is especially convenient if your ship arrives early enough in Miami. After returning, this 10-km route is ideal for adding some exercise while continuing to explore Downtown Miami and the waterfront.

Frequently asked questions

Does the route start directly at the cruise port or do I need a transfer?

The route generally starts directly at the Miami cruise port. Since Dodge Island is very large and has several terminals, you should allow some extra time depending on your ship's location.

How does navigation with the map and GPX file work? Do I need internet access?

You can either follow the route directly on the map on this page or import the GPX file into a navigation app such as Komoot. We recommend using the GPX file because it provides more accurate GPS navigation during the run. Once the GPX file is saved in your app, offline navigation is usually possible. We recommend testing navigation in airplane mode before your run.

Tip: It is still helpful to have internet access while traveling. If your mobile provider offers no or expensive roaming in the USA, a global eSIM plan for cruises can be useful, for example from eSIM.sm (advertisement).

Is the route safe?

The route mainly follows wide sidewalks in busy areas and is generally considered safe.

What should I do if I cannot continue or if I am running out of time?

Since most of the route is designed as an out-and-back course, you can shorten the distance and turn around earlier at almost any point. Especially for afternoon runs, plan enough extra time. For emergencies, it is recommended to save your ship's phone number in advance. Ride-sharing apps such as Uber or Lyft should also be installed and ready to use. They work very well in Miami.

Are there public toilets and drinking water along the route?

Public toilets can be found near Bayfront Park and at the marina close to Downtown Miami. Public drinking fountains are not known. However, there are many places around Downtown Miami where you can buy drinks.

What surface does the route have and what equipment do you recommend?

The route mainly follows asphalt paths and paved promenades. Regular running shoes are sufficient. We also recommend sunscreen (ad), enough water, and a phone or sports watch for navigation. A payment option is useful as well, although card and smartphone payments work almost everywhere in Miami.
