The cruise terminal of Palma de Mallorca is located around 5 kilometres from the historic old town. A transfer is therefore required for this sightseeing loop – the Parc de la Mar starting point is easily reached by bus or Uber. From there this 5 km loop connects some of the finest corners of the old town of Palma: the view of La Seu Cathedral, the lively La Rambla, the Canal de Palma and the Palau de l'Almudaina.
The route begins at the Parc de la Mar below La Seu Cathedral. Right at the starting point one of the finest views of Palma's landmark opens up – the Gothic La Seu Cathedral rising impressively above the park. A short loop through the park follows the pond and offers further lovely perspectives of the cathedral.
From there the route leads into the old town of Palma. After a few hundred metres through the historic lanes it turns onto La Rambla – one of the most well-known streets in Palma with wide pavements, flower stalls and a lively atmosphere.
At the end of La Rambla the route heads towards the Canal de Palma and follows it back in the direction of the starting point. The Canal de Palma is a canal-like watercourse running through the city and offers a pleasant running environment.
Before returning to the starting point the route heads back into the old town once more. It passes the Plaza del Rey Juan Carlos I and the Passeig des Born – one of the most elegant promenades in Palma – continuing to the Plaça de la Reina. From there it is just a short stretch past the Palau de l'Almudaina back to the Parc de la Mar.
A lovely sightseeing route through the heart of Palma de Mallorca. The view of La Seu Cathedral from the Parc de la Mar, the lively La Rambla and the elegant Passeig des Born make this a varied and enjoyable loop for a relaxed run or stroll. While a short transfer from the port is required, the route is considerably more rewarding than a loop of similar length directly from the cruise terminal.
Palma is best discovered with a combination of activity and sightseeing. Those who want to explore the city actively can follow up this 5 km old town loop with a guided cycling tour through the highlights of Palma. A short transfer to the starting point is required – after that the most important sights of the city can be explored comfortably by bike, including tapas and a drink.
Those looking for a special finale after the run or cycling tour can take a short helicopter flight over Palma. From above a spectacular view opens up over La Seu Cathedral, the harbour and the Bay of Palma – an unforgettable experience after an active day on Mallorca.
The route does not start directly at the cruise terminal but at the Parc de la Mar near La Seu Cathedral. A transfer is therefore required. The Parc de la Mar can be conveniently reached from the cruise terminal by bus or Uber.
The route can be followed either directly via the map on this page or by importing the GPX file into a navigation app like Komoot. Navigation via the GPX file is recommended, as it is considerably more precise and provides clear GPS guidance while running. Once the GPX file has been saved in the app, the map can usually also be used offline. It is recommended to test the navigation in flight mode without active Wi-Fi in advance.
Tip: If your mobile provider does not offer roaming in Spain or only at high cost, a global data plan is a good option for cruises, for example from eSIM.sm (advertisement).
The route runs mostly through busy areas of the old town and along well-built pavements. It is therefore considered safe.
Allow plenty of buffer time, especially for runs in the afternoon, as the transfer back to the cruise terminal also needs to be factored in. If time gets tight, the route can be shortened and you can head directly back to the Parc de la Mar. It is also worth saving the ship's phone number in advance for emergencies. Uber works reliably in Palma.
Public toilets are available at the Parc de la Mar. Along La Rambla and the Passeig des Born there are numerous cafés and restaurants where drinks can be bought.
The route runs over asphalt, cobblestones and paved promenades. Normal running shoes are sufficient. Sun protection, enough water and a navigation device are also recommended. A payment option is also useful, as in Palma you can usually pay by card or smartphone as well.
