Route description

Start at the cruise port of Tangier

The route starts directly outside the cruise port of Tangier. From there it leads to the beach promenade, which you reach after just a few metres.

Along the beach promenade

Now comes the most beautiful part of the route: several kilometres directly along the sea. The paths are excellently paved and offer ideal conditions for easy runs or faster sessions. Alternatively, you can run directly on the sand. At the end of Plage de Tanger you loop around a basketball court, which marks the turnaround point of the route.

Return with an optional detour to Tanja Marina Bay

The return follows the same route back towards the cruise port. Optionally, you can add a short detour to the modern and worth-seeing Tanja Marina Bay marina at the end of the route.

Perfect day

The route is ideal as a sporty start to the day or as a relaxed finish after an excursion in Tangier. Thanks to the flat course, you can flexibly decide whether to jog easily, run faster or simply walk along the sea.

We recommend taking an excursion outside Tangier and exploring the city itself afterwards during a sporty session. If you are looking for some adventure, a quad tour through the desert around Tangier is a great option. The transfer from the cruise port can be added on. Before or after, there is still enough time to explore Tangier on your own.

If you prefer to stay in Tangier, you can get to know the city better on a private guided walking tour. The tour also starts close to the cruise port and is perfect to learn more about the history, culture and old town of Tangier and Morocco. Before or after the tour, there is still plenty of time for an easy run or walk along the coast.

Frequently asked questions

Does the route start directly at the cruise port or do I need a transfer?

The route starts directly at the cruise port of Tangier. No transfer is required.

How does navigation with the map and GPX file work? Do I need internet access?

You can either follow the route directly on the map on this page or import the GPX file into a navigation app such as Komoot. We recommend using the GPX file for navigation, as it is much more precise and provides clear GPS guidance while running. Once the GPX file has been saved in your app, you can usually also use the map offline. We recommend testing the navigation in airplane mode without active Wi-Fi beforehand to ensure it works without an internet connection.

Tip: It is still useful to have internet access while travelling. A global data plan that works in many countries, such as eSIM.sm (advertisement), is well-suited for cruises.

Is the route safe?

Overall, the route is considered safe. It mainly follows wide promenade paths directly by the sea. The promenade in particular is busy with walkers, runners and other tourists.

What should I do if I can't continue or if I'm running out of time?

As the route is designed as an out-and-back, you can flexibly turn around at any time and shorten the distance. For emergencies, we also recommend saving your ship's phone number beforehand. Well-known international ride services such as Uber or Bolt are not available in Tangier. In an emergency you should be able to flag down a regular taxi quickly. As a rule you can also pay in euros, but it is worth confirming this briefly.

Are there public toilets and drinking options along the route?

Along the promenade you will find several cafés and restaurants where you can buy drinks. We are not aware of any specific public toilets along the route.

What surface does the route have and what equipment do you recommend?

The route mainly follows asphalt and paved promenade paths. In addition, you can run longer sections directly on the sand. Regular running shoes are sufficient. We also recommend bringing sun protection (ad), enough water and a smartphone or watch for navigation. As card payments are still often not accepted in Tangier, we recommend taking some cash with you. As a rule, you can also pay in euros.
