The cruise port of Las Palmas is located in the northeast of Gran Canaria and offers ideal conditions for an active shore excursion. This 10 km route combines city, nature, and coast, leading from the harbor over Alto del Confital and back along the El Confital coast.
The route starts immediately after exiting the cruise port. You will first run along Muelle Wilson street and then cross a major main road. From there, you will proceed through the city for several hundred meters.
The ascent to Alto del Confital then begins. This can be done either via the road or via alternative natural paths. At the top, you will have a wide view over Las Palmas and the island's north coast. The descent is towards Las Coloradas and further to the coast. In some parts, the ground is a bit uneven, requiring attention. A wide path runs along the coast back towards Playa de Las Canteras. The route finally leads back to the cruise port via the promenade and through the city.
The route offers an easy option for a flat run directly from the cruise port. The combination of promenade and city sections makes it well-suited for a short training session before or after an excursion. Especially the view from Alto del Confital makes this run a highlight among the harbor runs on Gran Canaria.
We particularly recommend this 10 km route in Gran Canaria. For an extraordinary day, you can complete the loop in the morning and then go paragliding over Las Palmas in the afternoon, starting near the cruise port.
Alternatively, you can take a full-day tour into the rainforest with a light hike. Since this tour takes up a large part of the day, you should check your specific schedule to see if there is still time for a shorter run before or after.
The running route starts in the immediate vicinity of the cruise port.
You can follow the route either directly via the map on this page or import the GPX file into a navigation app like Komoot. We recommend navigating via the GPX file, as it is much more precise and provides clear guidance via GPS while you are running. After saving the GPX file in your app, you can usually use the map offline. We recommend testing the navigation beforehand in airplane mode without active Wi-Fi to ensure it works even without an internet connection.
Tip: For safety, it’s still useful to have internet while on the go. If your mobile provider in Spain offers no or only expensive data roaming, a global data plan that works in many countries is suitable for cruises – for example, from eSIM.sm (advertisement).
The route partly runs alongside roads, but mostly on sidewalks. In the natural sections, the ground is sometimes uneven. Overall, the route can be classified as safe, but requires increased attention in individual sections.
The route can be flexibly adjusted. Especially along the promenade, an earlier return is possible at any time. For emergencies, it is advisable to save the ship's phone number in advance. In addition, apps like Uber or Bolt should be installed and ready for use. These services work well in Las Palmas.
A public restroom is located at Playa de Las Canteras. Public water fountains are not known, but there are opportunities to buy drinks along the promenade.
The route covers asphalted paths as well as partly natural and gravel sections. Normal running shoes are sufficient. We also recommend bringing sun protection (ad), enough water, and a navigation device. In addition, a payment option is useful, although in Gran Canaria you can usually pay by card or smartphone.
