The cruise port of Las Palmas is located in the northeast of Gran Canaria and offers excellent conditions for longer runs along the coast. This 20 km route combines well-maintained promenades with natural coastal sections, offering beautiful sea views throughout.
Important note regarding the start: The route can be shortened at any time. Possible turn-around points include the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus (approx. 15.5 km) or the Mirador del Sendero Azul (approx. 18.5 km).
The route starts immediately after exiting the cruise port. It first runs through Muelle Wilson street and then crosses a bridge to the other side of a large main road. A few meters further is the promenade, where the route first turns right towards the north.
Initially on cobblestones, later on natural paths, the route follows the coast to a turn-around point at a military zone, where you turn back. Back at Playa de Las Canteras, the route continues along the wide promenade to the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus. From there, a separate footpath runs parallel to the road to Mirador del Sendero Azul and finally to the natural pool Piscina Peña La Gaviota, which is the turn-around point for the full distance. The route then leads back to the cruise port via the promenade and through the city.
A very runnable long-run route with little traffic, beautiful coastal sections, and flexible distance options. Especially the combination of wild nature in the north and urban promenade makes the run varied. Another advantage of the route is that it can be flexibly shortened, allowing for an earlier return to the harbor.
This route is particularly suitable for a longer morning run, as the distance and lack of shaded areas require good planning. Due to the flexible route, you can spontaneously decide whether to run the full distance or shorten it.
A paragliding flight, starting near the cruise port, usually takes place in the afternoon. After an early run on this or alternatively a shorter route, this experience can be perfectly complemented.
Alternatively, a full-day tour to the rainforest with an easy hike is an option. Due to the duration of this tour, it should be checked beforehand whether there is enough time for a shorter run before or after.
The running route starts in the immediate vicinity of the cruise port.
You can follow the route directly via the map on this page or import the GPX file into a navigation app like Komoot. We recommend navigation via the GPX file, as it is significantly more precise and you receive clear guidance via GPS while running. After saving the GPX file in your app, you can usually use the map offline as well. We recommend testing the navigation beforehand in airplane mode without active Wi-Fi to ensure it works even without an internet connection.
Tip: For safety, it's still useful to have internet on the go. If your mobile provider in Spain offers no or only expensive data roaming, a global data plan that works in many countries is suitable for cruises – for example from eSIM.sm (advertisement).
The route mostly runs along promenades and separate sidewalks. Even on the natural sections, the ground is good for running. Overall, the route can be considered safe.
The route can be shortened at any time, as several turn-around points are possible. Also, along the promenade, you can always turn back directly. In case of emergency, it is advisable to save the ship's phone number in advance. In addition, apps like Uber or Bolt should be installed and ready to use. These services work well in Las Palmas.
A public restroom is located on Playa de Las Canteras. Public water dispensers are not known, but there are opportunities to buy drinks along the promenade.
The route runs on paved paths, cobblestones, and natural sections. Normal running shoes are sufficient. We also recommend bringing sun protection (ad), enough water, and a device for navigation. A payment method is also useful, although in Gran Canaria you can usually pay by card or smartphone.
