The Puerto del Rosario cruise port is located on the east of Fuerteventura and offers great opportunities to discover beautiful beaches and the highlights of the island's capital with a relaxed run. Puerto del Rosario is known for its numerous public sculptures and several large street art murals in the city center. This 10-km route combines beautiful coastal sections with a detour through the city center, combining nature and culture of Fuerteventura.
The route starts directly at the Puerto del Rosario cruise port. After leaving the port area, it follows the promenade south. You will pass several sculptures and the city beach Playa de Los Pozos, also known as Playa Chica.
The route then continues along a well-maintained pedestrian path along the coast. During your run, you'll have good views of planes taking off and landing at Fuerteventura Airport. The turnaround point is at Playa Blanca. From there, the route follows the same path back towards the harbor.
However, the loop does not end directly at the harbor but continues along the promenade and then through the city center. You'll pass several street art murals before reaching the Nuestra Señora del Rosario parish church. Afterwards, the route leads back to the cruise port.
The route is easily runnable and passes several beautiful places. It may not be one of the most spectacular running routes in the Canary Islands, but it offers a pleasant way to actively discover Puerto del Rosario. The route is also particularly interesting for airplane fans, as Playa Blanca is also popular for plane spotting.
This route is ideal as an active start to the day or a relaxed end after an excursion on Fuerteventura.
If you want to discover more of the island, you can take an excursion specially designed for cruise guests to the north of Fuerteventura. Since this excursion is not physically demanding, it can be optimally combined with an easy run or walk.
Alternatively, a windsurfing course in Corralejo is an option. However, this requires a transfer by bus or taxi. Since windsurfing can be physically demanding and you have to arrange the transfer yourself, it is usually recommended to complete the course first and then – depending on the remaining time and energy – decide spontaneously whether a run or walk is still possible.
The route starts in the immediate vicinity of the cruise port.
You can either follow the route directly via the map on this page or import the GPX file into a navigation app like Komoot. We recommend navigation via the GPX file, as it is significantly more precise and you receive clear guidance via GPS during your run. After saving the GPX file in your app, you can usually use the map offline. We recommend testing the navigation beforehand in airplane mode without active Wi-Fi to ensure it works without an internet connection.
Tip: For safety, it is still useful to have internet while on the go. If your mobile provider on Fuerteventura offers no or only expensive data roaming, a global data plan that works in many countries is suitable for cruises – for example, from eSIM.sm (advertisement).
The route partly follows roads but mainly runs on well-developed sidewalks and promenades. Overall, it can therefore be classified as safe.
Since the route passes the harbor again after about half the distance, it can easily be shortened. In case of an emergency, it is advisable to save the ship's phone number beforehand. In addition, apps like Uber or Bolt should be installed and ready to use. However, these services only work to a limited extent on Fuerteventura, so conventional taxis often have to be used.
A public restroom is located on a beach section shortly before Playa Blanca after about 2.2 or 3.2 km (waypoint 7 of the GPX file). Public drinking water points are not known along the route, but there are several places to buy drinks.
The route is mainly on paved paths. Normal running shoes are sufficient. We also recommend bringing sun protection (ad), enough water, and a phone or watch for navigation. Additionally, a payment method is useful, although on Fuerteventura you can usually pay by card or smartphone.
