The cruise port of Puerto del Rosario is located in the east of Fuerteventura and offers a good starting point to discover the highlights of the island's capital with a relaxed run. Puerto del Rosario is known for its numerous sculptures in public spaces and for several large street art murals in the city center. This 5 km route combines a detour to Playa Chica with the city's main sights.
The route starts directly at the cruise port of Puerto del Rosario. After leaving the harbor area, it runs south along the promenade. You will pass several sculptures and the city beach Playa de Los Pozos, also known as Playa Chica.
After a short section at Playa Chica, the route leads back past the cruise port and then continues along the promenade. Afterward, the route runs through several streets of the city center, past various street art murals and to the parish church Nuestra Señora del Rosario. From there, the route leads back toward the cruise port.
This route is ideal for actively and easily exploring Puerto del Rosario. Especially the combination of promenade, beach, and street art makes for a varied loop directly from the cruise port.
The route is ideal as a short sporty start to the day or a relaxed finish after an excursion on Fuerteventura.
If you want to see as much of the island as possible, you can take an organized day trip to the north of Fuerteventura. This tour is specifically designed for cruise guests and combines several highlights of the island. Since the excursion itself is not strenuous, you can perfectly combine it with a subsequent run or walk in Puerto del Rosario.
If you're looking for a more athletic excursion, a windsurfing course in Corralejo is a good option. However, this requires a transfer, for example by bus or taxi. Since windsurfing can be physically demanding and the transfer needs to be organized yourself, the running session is recommended afterward, depending on how much time and energy you still have.
The running route starts in the immediate vicinity of the cruise port.
You can follow the route either directly via the map on this page or import the GPX file into a navigation app like Komoot. We recommend navigating via the GPX file, as it is much more precise and provides clear guidance via GPS while you are running. After saving the GPX file to your app, you can usually use the map offline. We recommend testing the navigation beforehand in airplane mode without active Wi-Fi to ensure it works without an internet connection.
Tip: For safety, it's still useful to have internet access on the go. If your mobile provider on Fuerteventura offers no or only expensive data roaming, a global data plan that works in many countries is suitable for cruises – for example from eSIM.sm (advertisement).
The route partly follows busy roads, but mostly on well-maintained sidewalks and promenades. Overall, it can be considered safe.
Since the route is largely near the harbor, it can be shortened or canceled at any time. For emergencies, it's advisable to save the ship's phone number beforehand. Additionally, apps like Uber or Bolt should be installed. However, these services are only partially available on Fuerteventura, so taxis often have to be used.
There is a public restroom at Playa Chica. Public drinking water points are not known along the route. However, there are several options to buy drinks.
The route primarily runs on paved paths. Normal running shoes are sufficient. We also recommend taking sun protection (ad), plenty of water, and a cell phone or running watch for navigation. Additionally, a payment method is useful, although on Fuerteventura you can usually pay by card or smartphone.
